Sommaire du projet

The cross-platform application inSitu Solutions(TM) helps Web and mobile phones to publish location-based content to inform, attract and retain visitors. This interactive solution delivers multimedia content through points of interest on maps, floor plans or images. InSitu Solutions(TM) is scalable and easy to deploy, using a Content Management System (CMS) that allows clients to simultaneously manage content in several languages for the Web, kiosks and mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets. The goal of the project is to investigate the addition of an augmented reality (AR) to such environment. The objective is to investigate how to incorporate AR components with three different objectives: - a Flash/Flex module that will allow content administrator to create Points of Interest (POI) on a picture in order to link the POI to some content - A iPhone module that will 'recognize' the picture and overlay the POIs on the image delivered by the camera. - A Google Android module that will 'recognize' the picture and overlay the POIs on the image delivered by the camera. The project results shall be used from smartphones directly by visitors or cultural institutions. We need to investigate advanced mechanisms to provide these services, and the main objective will be to incorporate new algorithms and methods to augment the information provided by the system. One of the main problems to tackle is the appropriate cross-platform libraries in order to build a working prototype on two types of smartphones.
